Woodrow Matthew Ricks Jr. was born on December 29, 1982, to Woodrow and Yvonne Ricks.  He entered eternal rest on Saturday, August 23, 2025 at 5:21pm at the young age of 42 years old.  He was the baby of the family and always took care is his Mother.

Junior went to Sussex Central High School.  After High School, he went to Job Corps. He worked at Virginia Diner and Surry Lumber until his health declined. In the last couple of years, he worked with Mr. Moses.

He joined Mars Hill A.M.E. Zion and gave his life to Christ under the leadership of Joshua Walker.  He was baptized on November 15, 2020.

He was a loving son, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin, and friend to many. He always kept you laughing. Junior would feed everyone who came to the house multiple meals and desserts.

He was preceded in death by his Great-Grandparents, Whelan and Louvenia Gatling; Grandparents, Charlie and Margaret Gatling; Uncle Wobb, Uncle Otis, Uncle Libby, Uncle James, and Cousin Chrishard Gatling.

He leaves to cherish his memories, his loving Mother, Yvonne Ricks, Father, Woodrow Ricks Sr., two sisters, Tequila Gatling and Willette Davis (Aaron); two aunts Bernice Turner and Belinda Deberry; one uncle, James Gatling (Alice); four nieces, Erin Davis, Tekia Jones, Ava Davis and Adrian Davis; close cousins, Jamie Gatling, Mark Gatling, Tysheka Davis, Lil Joe Davis, Quent Gatling and AJ Gatling; Special Auntie Tammy Davis.

Public Viewing will be 10:00am - 5:00pm, Thursday, August 28, 2025, at Peace Funeral Home, 237 Railroad Avenue, Waverly, Virginia 23890.

Homegoing Celebration of Life for Woodrow Matthew Ricks Jr. will be 12:00pm Friday, August 29, 2025, at Mars Hill A.M.E. Zion Church, 111 Williams Lane, Wakefield, Virginia 23888, Pastor Todd D. French Sr., Pastor & Eulogist.  Interment will follow immediately at Booker T. Memorial Park, Wakefield, Virginia.
