Obituary

Mr. William Lee Nixon (Pee-Wee) of 22156 Neblett Mill Road, Waverly, Va., departed this life Sunday, April 16, 2017, at his residence. He was a native of Sussex County and son of the late Mrs. Mary E. Nixon and the late Mr. William L. Nixon Sr. He was preceded in death by a sister, Evangelist Dora Parham (Rev. Kenneth). He was educated in the public schools of Sussex County and graduated from Sussex Central High School in 1966.
Cpl. William L. Nixon served in the Republic of Vietnam in the U.S. Army with "A" Battery, 2D Battalion, 13th Artillery from July 1967 to July 1968. He retired from Honeywell Corporation (formerly Allied Chemical) after 35 plus years of service. William was a decorated serviceman receiving numerous medals to include: National Defense Service Medal; Vietnam Service Medal; Vietnam Campaign Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.

Surviving are: his loving daughter, Devonia L. Nixon, devoted sister and caregiver, Ada Nixon of the residence, sisters, Eugena Nixon of Waverly, Hester Lucas (Rev. Eldridge) of Prince George, Gladys Arrington (Tony) of Florida and Annette Cole (Melvin) of Waverly; two brothers, Jimmy Nixon (Patricia) of Portsmouth and Terry Nixon (Renee); Carolyn Parham (Aunt) of Baltimore, Maryland; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives among them, heart adopted son Pernell Pope (Crystal) and close friend Genora Pope. William attended Rose of Sharon Apostolic Church until his health started to decline.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, April 24th at the Rose of Sharon Apostolic Church, Waverly, Bishop Tyrone Harper, pastor officiating. Rev. Dr. Eldridge Lucas, III, pastor of Emmanuel Baptist Church, Smithfield, will eulogize. Interment will be at the Albert G. Horton Memorial Veterans Cemetery.
