Obituary

William Anson Bailey, affectionately known as "Boochie", was born on June 12, 1982, to William Henry Jr. and Mary Diane Bailey in Washington, DC. He moved to Waverly, VA in 1991 and later attended Sussex Central High School where William excelled as a student and marching band drummer. He graduated in 2000 and enrolled into Virginia State University, becoming a vital and integral piece to the VSU Trojans Marching Band's historic legacy. Boochie absolutely loved music and his knowledge and understanding of music stretched from every genre.

William began his career as a dedicated and cherished worker for the DC firm of Powers Pyles Sutter & Verville, P.C. in 2002 and remained there for the next 23 years. He was described by his colleagues as having a brilliant smile, warm spirit, and dependable presence that touched everyone who had the privilege to work with him. A cherished member of the Powers team serving in the Facilities department with dedication, kindness, and an unwavering willingness to help wherever he was needed.

Family was always a paramount part of William's life with a deep admiration for his Mom & Dad and a close bond with all of his siblings. He became a proud Dad with the birth of his beautiful daughters Nadia Marie in 2005 and Vera Jane in 2010. William made it a priority to attend every school function, game, and event that included his girls as his world evolved around raising them to be the amazingly exceptional young women they've become. Boochie was the backbone - the glue that held us all together.

An avid fisherman, Boochie loved to "try his hand" (as he would often say) at any waterway he crossed - whether it be the Patuxent River, James River, Chesapeake Bay, or Atlantic Ocean. A proud boat owner who loved to spend time on the water so much so that he had recently become a first-time homeowner after purchasing his house nestled on the banks of the Potomac River. His other hobbies included selling antique and modern items as he had a special gift of appraising anything he ran across. William also formed a band with his brothers and friends where he played drums and percussion, playing local gigs throughout the DMV. His love for music allowed him to personally meet some of the greats - Joe Sample, Rachelle Farrell, George Duke, Billy Cobham, Stephen Marley, Kenny Garrett and many more! He absolutely loved the music of Miles Davis and Bob Marley.

William is survived by his daughters, Nadia Marie and Vera Jane. His mother Mary Diane and father William Henry. Sisters Nicole Bailey, Aliya Longmire (Joshua), and Tamia Williams (Tom). Brothers Abdul Bailey (Nicole) and Eric Bailey. A devoted friend, Gloria Ricketts, and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends. He was preceded in death by his Grandmothers Hilda Peel, Mildred Bailey, and Grandfather William Henry "Bye" Bailey, Sr.

William Anson Bailey - A truly amazing man with a humble spirit and heart of gold. He exuded love and was loved. We will miss that comforting smile and reassuring voice. Love Always
