Mr. Waverly Brown Jr. "Punch" 80 of Waverly, Virginia departed this life on Wednesday, October 4, 2023, at Bon Secours Southside Regional Medical Center, Petersburg, Virginia.
Waverly was born on November 8, 1942, to the late Waverly and Mary Brown Sr. in addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved brothers, James Brown Sr. and Albert M. Brown Sr., his one and only sister, Mary R. Brown, sister-in-law, Margie M. Brown, his sons by marriage Rodney Priest, and Frank Priest, great-nephew, Lorenzo Anthony Mason Jr.
Waverly graduated from Sussex Central High School, Class of 1962. He went on to serve our country for five years in the United States Air Force as a cook. He retired from the US Defense Supply Center Bellwood, Richmond, Virginia after 10-plus years. After retirement, he decided to give his life to Christ in 2016 where he became a member of Calvary Community Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Audie M. Ellis.
Waverly became a member of the American Legion in 2018, where he was devoted to mutual helpfulness in donating monthly. His daily routine was hanging out with his baby brother Albert until he passed in 2021.
He leaves to cherish his memories six devoted nephews, Albert M. Brown Jr. (Brenda) of Spring Grove, VA, with whom he shared a close relationship, James Brown Jr. (Lana) of Ellicott City, MD, Kenneth Brown of Washington, DC, Travis Brown of Hopewell, VA and Benjamin Brown of Hopewell, VA and Alexander Jones of Waverly, VA:; four devoted nieces, Barbara Brown of Prince George, VA, Arlene Brown of Prince George, VA, Georgette L. Brown of Dinwiddie, VA and Shavon L. Brown of Fayetteville, NC with whom he always carried a picture of in his wallet, one son by marriage, Waun Priest (Beatrice) of Henrico, VA; three daughters by marriage, Constance Priest of Hopewell, VA, Frieda Priest of Dinwiddie, VA, and Tyvona Foster of Petersburg, VA, and a host of great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces, great-great-nephews, cousins and friends.
Public Viewing will be 10:00am - 5:00pm Friday, October 13, 2023, at Peace Funeral Home, 237 Railroad Avenue, Waverly, Virginia.
A Celebration of Life will be 1:00pm Saturday, October 14, 2023, at Peace Funeral Home Chapel, 237, Railroad Avenue, Waverly, Virginia, Rev. Audie M. Ellis of Calvary Community Baptist Church, Wakefield, Virginia, Eulogist, Rev Bobby Ricks of Liberty Baptist Church, Officiating.
