Vernell R. Garrett, 83 of Newport News, Virginia departed this life on Saturday, November 16, 2019.  Vernell was born on July 3, 1936, in Yale, VA.  She attended Sussex County Schools. Vernell worked at the YMCA for numerous years until retirement in 1998.  Later she was baptized in Jesus Name at Christ Church, Hampton, Virginia.

She was preceded in death by her mother Pattie Ricks; sister Carrie Bell Jones of Waverly, sister Elizabeth Gray of Newport News and brother(Littlebit).

She leaves to cherish memories of her, six children, James Garrett Jr. of Virginia Beach, Edward Garrett of Newport News, Sandra Cannie of Newport News, Jerry Garrett of Newport News, Terry Garrett of Newport News and Patricia Mason of Prince George County, VA; eight grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews.  A very very special devoted niece Lois Gary.

Celebration of Life will be 12 Noon, Saturday, November 23, 2019, at Emmanuel Apostolic Temple, 104 Slagle Avenue, Petersburg, VA, Bishop David Tolbert, Pastor. Interment will follow at Waverly Cemetery, Waverly, VA.
