Obituary

And he said to me, "It is Done! I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. To the thirsty I will give from the fountain of the water of life without payment. He who conquers shall have this heritage, and I will be his God and he shall be my son." Revelations 21:6-7

On Friday, January 16th, 2015, God in his infinite wisdom saw that Vanessa G. Johnson had completed her earthly assignment and called her to her heavenly home to rest.

She was born February 17, 1959 to Clarence and Gracie Gray of Waverly, Virginia. She was preceded in death by her daughter Martina D. Johnson.

Vanessa received her formal education from Sussex County Public Schools, graduating in Class of 1977. After being called to the ministry as an evangelist, she found it imperative to learn more about the teachings of Jesus. In 2007 she received her associate's degree from the International College of Bible Theology in Petersburg, Virginia.

Vanessa recognized early that Christ was to be first in her life. She accepted Christ as her personal Savior and became affiliated with the following ministries, Union Hill Church of Christ, Rose of Sharon Apostolic Church where she received her calling into ministry, Rhema Word Ministries and New Direction Praise and Worship where she continued to share the Word of God.

She not only devoted her life to the ministry, she gave her devotion to being a true solider and supporter and cheerleader of her husband Clyde, her children, grandchildren and family who were her pride and joy.

She leaves to cherish her treasured memory her devoted solider boy, her husband of 34 years Clyde E Johnson Jr. of Waverly, Virginia, her loving and committed children Demetria "Dee Dee" (Maseo) Parker of Waverly, Virginia and , Clyde E "Cee" (Katina) Johnson 3rd of Prince George, Virginia. Her father and mother Clarence and Gracie Gray of Waverly, Virginia. One mother-in-law Warren Johnson of Waverly, Virginia, one sister, Mayvis Petticolas of Waverly, Virginia and one brother Clarence "Mike" (Angela) Gray of Waverly, Virginia. One sister-in-law Maria Johnson of Chester, Virginia and four brother-in-laws, Nathaniel Johnson of Portsmouth, Virginia, Gary Johnson of Waverly, Virginia, James (Pamela) Johnson of Hinesville, Georgia, Samuel (Shanna) Johnson of El Paso, Texas and Terry Johnson of Barnstable Massachusetts. Five grandchildren, Maseo Parker Jr. "Mann", Heaven, Faith and Grace Parker and Caleb Johnson. Three aunts, Gladys Ricks, Stella "Virginia" Thomas, Claudine Green and one uncle, Frank "Uncle Jimmy" Whitney. One godson Michael "Snoop" Durrant and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

No longer will we see you and Clyde at the 7-11 getting coffee, no longer will we see you as you give words of encouragement as we pass you on the streets, flash your smile and hear the laughter that definitely came from our soul. No longer will we hear the greeting of "hey baby". Vanessa you will be sorrowfully missed but never forgotten. You were proof that God is love.

Funeral Service for Mrs. Johnson will be Thursday, January 22, 2015, 11:00am at Rose of Sharon Apostolic Church, 429 Elm Street, Waverly, VA, Bishop Tyrone Harper, Pastor. Interment will follow at Union Hill Church Cemetery, Sedley, VA.
