Susan M.
Harrison
May 31, 1943 – November 13, 2024
Our Sister, Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, Aunt, and Friend, our beloved Susan Marie Taylor Harrison received her "Spiritual Wings" on Wednesday, morning, November 13, 2024, while at the Bon-Secours Southside Regional Medical Center in Petersburg, Virginia.
Susan better known as "Susie" (the baby of six) was born May 31, 1943, to the late Wade, Sr. (Ike) and Ruth Chavis Taylor in Yale, Virginia.
Susie was joined in Holy Matrimony to the late Johnnie Harrison, Sr. for forty-seven years until his passing; to this union, five children were born.
Along with her parents, and husband, Susie was preceded in death by one son, Gerald Lamont Harrison, and four siblings; Betty, Wade, Emmett, and Paul.
At an early age, Susie was baptized and joined the Calvary Baptist Church in Yale, Virginia. She attended the Sussex County School System, graduating from what was then known as the Sussex County Training School.
Susie's greatest joy was being a Homemaker, being able to stay home and raise her children was a blessing for her. As life moved on and the children grew into adulthood, her son Jody remained with her.
During her spare time, Susie enjoyed having her favorite snacks nearby; Bugles, Lemon Pies, Fig Newton Bars, and of course the Taylor family trademark, "A cold Mountain Dew." These would be close by as she watched her favorite television shows, to include Dog the Bounty Hunter, Wheel of Fortune, and Little Women of Atlanta (she enjoyed watching "Juicy.") And not to forget her westerns, loving John Wayne and Bonanza.
Susie always accessorized her hair with colorful flowers, and it only set off her beautiful spirit. If one could describe her within a few words, it would be the soul of a rare and precious gem. She had a kind and wonderful character. No wonder she loved Al Green.
Susie leaves to cherish her memories and unconditional love with her four loving and devoted children: Joanne Clarke (Pernell. Jr.), Johnnie Harrison, Jr., Kimberly Claiborne (Gregory), and Jermaine Harrison of the home, twelve grandchildren: Danielle (Joseph, Jr.), Shannon, Shaniqua (Kelvin), Jasmine, Tyzar, Treshaun, Jontae, Johnnie, III, Siara, Shardana, Dakota, and Delano, thirteen great-grandchildren, and one sister, Virginia Williams (Jimmy).
Susie was called "Aunt Susie" by her many, nephews and nieces. She loved them all and would enjoy whenever any of them would visit. (Just too many to name!)
She also leaves six sisters-in-law that she was fond of: Fannie Williams, Jane Lundy, Hazel Jackson, Shirley Taylor, Alma Hinton and Evelyn Giles, and a host of cousins, other relatives, and friends, to include Katherine Hinton and Margorie Vaughan.
Although Susie's leaving took the family by surprise, we do not mourn her in sorrow, but we celebrate her life in joy. We will never forget her love, her kindness and the way she made us laugh. Farewell Susan Marie!
