Obituary

On February 21, 2024, Jesus called our beloved Mother, Grandmother, and Great Grandmother home to glory.

Ruth Veolia Graves was born on June 25, 1939, to the late Walter and Ruth Louise Turner in Waverly, VA. She attended the Sussex Co. Public School System.

Ruth, who was affectionately known as Sister and Lady to many of her family members, worshipped God at the Church of God Apostolic Faith in Waverly, VA under the leadership of Bishop Richard T. Brown, Sr. where she received Christ at an early age.

She later married Vernon M. Graves, Sr. (Who preceded her in death). She then joined Rose of Sharon Apostolic Church under the leadership of Elder Isaac Holmes and later the presiding Bishop Tyrone Harper, Sr.

Ruth worked as a hospitality worker at Holiday Inn in Petersburg, VA for over 20 years, retiring in the early 2000s.

Momma enjoyed spending time with her Children, Grandchildren, and Great-Grandchildren. She especially looked forward to Sunday dinners with a house full of family. Momma loved to read her Bible, attend church services until her health declined, and listen to her favorite Gospel music stations. She always encouraged her Children and Grandchildren to pray for each other and to continue having family prayer.

She was preceded in death by her son Marvin Graves, Sr, and daughter Deborah Graves Britton. She leaves to cherish her memory of three loving and devoted Daughters, Yvonne Goode (Floyd, Sr.), Audrey Winfield (Roosevelt), and Paula Graves all of Waverly, VA.
