Obituary

On Wednesday, October 4, 2017 our beloved son, brother, uncle, nephew and friend Ruben Robert Patterson, reached the end of his earthly journey from labor to his Heavenly home.

He was affectionately known as "Lee" to all his family and friends. Lee had a heart of gold and was loved and respected by all. He was born in Sussex County to the late Raymond "Jack" Patterson and Nell N. Patterson. He received his education from Sussex County Public Schools.

He was preceded in death by his father Jack, paternal grandmother Corean Patterson, maternal grandparents Nat and Gracie Gay and a niece Shaniqua "Denay" Patterson.

At an early age Lee accepted Christ and joined First Baptist Church in Wakefield. Over the years he fellowship at Christian Outreach, his love of praising God through songs lead him to join Pocahontas Temple Baptist Church, were he sang with the male chorus and Mars Hill A.M.E. Zion. Because of his love for his home Church Lee's journey brought him back to First Baptist in July of this year.

Lee employment career began at an early age. He worked at the VA Diner, Pope's Supermarket, both in Wakefield, VA; Gray Lumber Company in Waverly and Seward Lumber Company in Surry. His last place of work was at Wakefield Great Value until his health decline. He was a very hard and dedicated worker who loved his job.

He leaves to cherish his memory, a loving and devoted mother who knew him first, Nell N. Patterson; five sisters, Elizabeth Judkins (James); Peggy Purdie; Kathy Patterson; all of
Wakefield, VA; Janet Patterson and Valarie Patterson-Ricks both of Waverly, VA. Two brothers, Kelvin Patterson (Lisa) and Allen Tonkins both of Wakefield, VA; his life companion Shirley Turner of Wakefield, VA, and a God sister Myesha Britton of Waverly, VA; one uncle, seven aunts, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He loved to sing God's praises and knew no stranger. His love for people was shown everywhere he went. His love for his nieces and nephews went above and beyond and they all enjoyed the company of their Uncle Lee. He will truly be missed by many.

Public Viewing for Mr. Patterson will be 10:00am to 6:00pm Sunday, October 8, 2017 at Peace Funeral Home.

A Service to celebrate his life will be held at 12 noon on Monday, October 9, 2017 at First Baptist Church located at 217 S. County Drive, Wakefield, VA.
