Phyllis Ruffin 72 of Midland, Virginia was born August 2, 1951, to the late Nathaniel Gay and the late Gracie Smith Gay of Wakefield, Virginia. Phyllis grew up surrounded by eleven siblings a close family and loving home.

She was educated in the Sussex County public school system. Phyllis was a devoted Jehovah's Witness her love and faith for Jehovah God sustained her during her illnesses.

Phyllis was employed by the Midland County School System as a dietitian. She retired after more than twenty years of service.

Phyllis and James were married for fifty-three years. From this union three sons Roderick, Lamont, and the late James Oliver Junior "PJ."

Phyllis was survived by her husband James Ruffin, and two sons Roderick and Lamont Ruffin, she was the proud grandmother of eleven grandchildren and several great-grandchildren, one god-son, brothers the late Leslie, Thomas, Nathaniel Jr, Fred, and Allen: Sisters the late Elnore, Nell, and Doris. two sisters Gladys Stringfield and Louise Stith and brother Richard Gay, and a host of Nieces, Nephews, Aunts, Cousins Friends, and wonderful neighbors as a community of family as one…
