Obituary

"The righteous perish, and no one ponders it in his heart; devout men are taken away, and no one understands that the righteous are taken away to be spared from evil. Those who walk uprightly enter into peace; they find rest as they lie in death," Isaiah 57: 1-2.

Brother Percy Chambliss Jr., 71, of 12271 Beaverdam Road, entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, July 30, 2014.

Percy called "Bobby" better known as "Crip."

A Virginia native, Percy was born on Jan. 24, 1943, to the late Mary Lee and Percy Chambliss Sr. Percy retired from William Wood Product in Spring Grove. He was a faithful member of Christian Outreach Ministries, Waverly, where he tenaciously served as head of transportation and lead guitar player in the music department.

Percy was a friend to many and was often known for his singing. He enjoyed being around people and sparking the laughter that could cheer a down trotted spirit.

Percy was preceded in death by: his father, Percy Chambliss Sr.; mother, Mary Lee Chambliss; and brother, Shirley Turner.

He is survived by: his wife, Deborah Chambliss; sons, Percy Wyatt Sr. (Melissa) of South Hampton; Garland (Dee Dee) Chambliss (Stephanie) of Sussex, Melvin Chambliss of Richmond, Ronnie Chambliss (Teresa) of Sussex; daughters, Sylvia Chambliss (Kenneth) of Sussex, and Cynthia Chambliss (Carl) of Springfield; he also leaves two stepchildren, Takefa Benjamin and Aesha Benjamin of Sussex; two brothers, Bishop Garland Chambliss (Bishop Windy) of Dinwiddie, and Philandra Chambliss Sr. of Newport News; 16 grandchildren and one great-grand child; numerous loving nieces; and nephews; and a host of devoted friends.

"Just close your eyes and you will see, All the memories that you have for me. Just sit and relax and you will find, I'm really still there inside your mind. Don't cry for me now I'm gone, For I am in the land of song. There is no pain; There is no fear, So dry away that silent tear.

Don't think of me in the dark and cold, For here I am, no longer old. I'm in that place that's filled with love, known to you all, as "up above," Bishop Garland and Bishop Windy Chambliss.

Service for Mr. Chambliss will be at 1 p.m. Monday, Aug. 4, 2014, at Union Hill Church, Sedley, the Rev. Roy Stokes, pastor. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
