Pearl V. Conner Judkins, 88, entered into eternal peace on Saturday, December 3, 2016, at Southside Regional Medical Center in Petersburg, VA. Pearl was born in Surry County Virginia on July 4, 1928 to the late George and Susie Stringfield Conner.
Pearl confessed Christ at an early age, and joined Oak Grove Baptist Church where she served faithfully for many years, until her health began to decline. Pearl was a God fearing woman, and worked effortlessly in many capacities in both the church and the community. Pearl served dutifully in the capacities of Sunday School Teacher, 1st Sr. Choir and Mass Choir member (60 years), Missionary Member, Pastor's Aide Member, Member of the Willing Workers and the OGBC hospitality Ministry. She was fondly called "Ms. Pearline" and "Aunt Pealine" by family and friends.
On February 14, 1949, Pearl united in marriage with James Judkins. From this union of 62 years two children were born James "Duke" Judkins, Jr. and Jennifer "Dee Dee" Judkins Edwards. Pearl worked at Columbia Peanut (currently Schultz) for many years, before retiring to take care of her mother.
Pearl was very family oriented and loved preparing for family gatherings during the holidays (especially cooking). She absolutely adored her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Those who knew Pearl best knew that she loved cooking and shopping. In the prime of her life, Pearl loved to play softball, dance, and garden. She was well known for her pound "plain" cake and homemade ice cream. Pearl loved to sing with her siblings, children, nieces, nephews and grandchildren at family gatherings. Pearl was very straightforward, she always had a very listening ear and gave Godly advice. She was a PRAYING woman, and relied heavily on the word of God.
Pearl was proceeded in death by her husband James Judkins, Sr. two sisters Annie "Teeny" Conner Nichols and Joan Conner Evans; two brothers McKinley Benjamin Conner and George Conner, Jr.; two great-grandsons SeDarius Cordell Eley and Dylas Amard Eley.
Pearl leaves to cherish her memories her children, sons James "Duke" Judkins Jr. (Elizabeth) and Anthony "Tony" Evans, both of Wakefield, VA; her daughter, Jennifer "Dee-Dee" Judkins Edwards (John) of Petersburg, VA; seven grandchildren: Pamela Jones (Wayne), Paula Motton (Rodney), Paulette Nowell (James), Patrick Judkins, Patrice Eley (Darius), Jenae' Edwards-Jones (Antonio), and Jherica Edwards; thirteen great-grandchildren: Cherrelle, Shabre', Chenelle, Safari, Sy'mia, Shaela, SeDarien, Jaden, Jaya, Sabien, Jaliyah, Jason and Jaelynn; three brothers Roy Conner and Stanley Conner (Jerlene), both of Wakefield, VA, David Conner (Ann) of Washington, DC, brother-in-law Percell Nichols of Petersburg, VA; one sister Geneva Harris of Dinwiddie, VA; , a host of "special grandchildren", nieces ,nephews, cousins and friends; devoted friends, Gladys Hamlin and Laura Ann Goodrich. Last but not least grandma required much care while at home, and Mrs. Tammy "Puddin" Worrell was heaven sent.
Pearl was the matriarch of her family. She has held our hands, guided us down the path of righteousness, and will now live forever in our hearts.
