Nancy R. Harris , 79, of Waverly, Virginia departed this life on February 20, 2022. She was preceded in death by her father, Willie Baines; her mother, Katie Lee Baines; her brother, John Lee Baines; and sister Willie Mae Brown.

Nancy was educated in the Sussex County School system and was a member of the first graduating class of Sussex Central High School. She loved Home Economics classes and became an accomplished seamstress. Before retirement, Nancy worked as a live-in maid, service station manager for Little Oil Company for 15 years, a paper carrier for the Richmond Times-Dispatch, and finally as a certified babysitter.

Nancy is survived by her son and caregiver, Andrew W. Harris Jr. of Waverly, VA; daughters, Sheila Harris (Eugene) of Waverly, VA and Michelle Spratley of Waverly, VA; her grandsons, Capt. Terence Harris (Denise) of Ft. Hood, TX, Terrell Harris of Richmond, VA, Edward Spratley of Petersburg, VA, TaShawn Harris of Waverly, VA; granddaughters Ashley Jones-Turner (Jimmy) of Waverly, VA, Cionna Spratley of Waverly VA, great-grandson Jamari Turner of Waverly, VA and great-granddaughter Riley Spratley of Petersburg, VA. She leaves behind brothers Walter Baines (Bennie) of Petersburg, VA, Lorenzo Baines of Carson, VA, Glenn Baines of Hopewell VA, Donald Baines of Waverly VA, and Lenard Baines of Portsmouth, VA, and sisters Lucille Parker of Waverly VA, Kathryn Baines of Waverly VA, and Margie Faulcon of Dewitt, VA.  She also leaves behind nieces and nephews and other family members and friends.

Nancy's days began with prayer and Bible study. She kept busy with her sewing and crafting. Her unique creation she called "Nancy's Hugs," a stuffed bear. She gave them away freely. Nancy liked to cook and would often share meals and desserts with her children, grandchildren, and neighbors.

Nancy's son and caregiver would like to thank those who were so kind and helpful to him in caring for his mother. Thank you to our neighbors, the workers at Family Dollar and Dollar General in Waverly, Waverly Motors, Cowling Brothers, to Ann Giles of Primis Bank in Waverly, Waverly Rescue Squad, Mr. Daniel Burt, and finally to Doctors Mujeebuddin and Mohiuddin of Twin Rivers Medical Center in Hopewell, VA.

A Graveside Celebration of Life will be 3:00 pm Saturday, February 26, 2022, at Waverly Cemetery on Spring Branch Road, Waverly, Virginia.

Public Viewing will be 10:00 am - 5:00 pm Friday, February 25, 2022, at Peace Funeral Home, 237 Railroad Avenue Waverly, Virginia.
