Morris Lee Harris, 76, of Waverly, Virginia departed this life on October 20, 2014. He was preceded in death by his mother, Millie Drew Harris; his father George T. Harris; and sisters Fannie Davis and Rose Johnson. Morris was educated in the Sussex County Public School System.

Morris was employed with the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) for over 33 years. He rose to the rank of Foreman before health concerns caused him to leave this position. He was a member of Liberty Baptist Church for over 50 years.

Morris, is survived by his wife of 29 years, Nancy R. Harris, of Waverly, VA; son William Phillips (Jackie) and grandson Brandon Phillips of Virginia Beach, VA; three step-children, step-son, Andrew W. Harris Jr. of Waverly, VA; step-daughters, Sheila Harris (Eugene) of Waverly, VA and Michelle Spratley of Waverly, VA and their children who all knew and called Morris "Granddaddy." They are "grandsons," Terence Harris, Terrell Harris, Edward Spratley, TaShawn Harris; "granddaughters" Ashley Jones-Turner (Jimmy), Cionna Spratley, and "great-grandson" Jamari Turner, all of Waverly, VA. He leaves behind a host of nephews, nieces, other family members, friends and loved ones. Finally, he leaves behind friends and in-laws Lucille Parker, Walter and Bennie Baines, Lorenzo and Shirley Baines, Margie and Robert Faulcon, Karthryn Baines, Glenn Baines, Donald Baines, Lenard Baines, Wesley Butts, Willie and Bernice Harris, and Lilly Jones.

Morris loved life, good food, and talking to just about anyone he met. He also enjoyed sitting in his back yard and riding in his Chevy Silverado.

Morris and his family were thankful to family and friends for the kindness they extended to him, especially during his declining health. We would like to extend a special thank you to Garland Johnson (brother-in-law) for his loyal and faithful friendship and to Orlando Wilkins (nephew) for his dedication and assistance in getting Morris to some of his many doctors' appointments.

Funeral Services will be held on Friday, October 24, 2014 at Liberty Baptist Church, Waverly, Virginia. The church is located at 235 Railroad Avenue. Family members are asked to come to 6386 George Town Road, Waverly, Virginia, services by 12:15 pm to proceed to the church. Interment will follow at Waverly Cemetery, Waverly, VA.
