April 19, 1922 – July 18, 2021
On Sunday morning, July 18, 2021, God in His infinite wisdom called home one of his faithful servants, Mrs. Mazie Lee Gray. Mrs. Gray entered eternal rest at the Accordius Healthcare Center, Waverly, Virginia. She was a native of Southampton County, and had been residing in Waverly, Virginia with her oldest niece Mrs. Mamie Barnes for the past three years.
Maize was born on April 19, 1922, to the late Augusta and Mamie Crocker Edwards. She was proceeded in death by her husband, Mr. Chauncey Gray. She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Mary E. Avent and Daisy L. Gray. Three brothers James, Lewis, and Lawrence Edwards.
At an early age, Mazie joined the Ebenezer Baptist Church and was a faithful member of the Pastor's Aid. She worked diligently until her health declined. She leaves to cherish her memory her nieces and nephews. A devoted niece and her caregiver Mrs. Mamie Barnes (Huddie) of Waverly, Virginia. Dorothy Lee of Maryland, Jeanette Cottemon, Larry Edwards (Odell), Edith Edwards, and Barbara Edwards all of Waverly, Virginia. Mr. James Edwards (Rosemary) of Wakefield, Virginia, Marjorie Thorpe (Bernard) of Suffolk, Virginia, and Teresa Chambliss (Ronnie Sr.) of Prince George, Virginia. Devoted friends Mr. Willie Chambliss and Mrs. Virginia Scott. A host of great-nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
The family would also like to extend gratitude and thanks to the staff at Southside Regional Medical Center, Petersburg, and The Accordius Health Care Center, Waverly.
A Celebration of Life Service will be at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 24, 2021, at Ebenezer Baptist Church, 10686 Ivor Road, Ivor, Virginia. Public viewing will be 10:00 am-6:00 pm Friday, July 23, 2021, at Peace Funeral Home Waverly, Virginia. The body will be available for viewing at the church one hour prior to the service on Saturday.
