On Thursday, November 15, 2013, Mary Thonor Brooks (Huck), 64, departed this life and entered into eternal rest and peace at Southside Regional Medical Center, Petersburg, Virginia.
Mary was born on December 8, 1948 to the proud parents of the late Fenton Jr. and Mary Alma Mason. She accepted Christ as her personal Savior and was baptized at a very early age. Mary was married to her life time husband, Donald Brooks. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Dorothy Thomas.
She received her education in the Sussex County Public School System. She was employed by Masonite for twenty plus years. Mary attended Flair Beauty School, where she received her training as a beautician. She enjoyed her work as a hair dresser and established a legacy of being an excellent beautician. Mary had a "Heart of Gold"! She was a giver, comforter and well known for being loving and caring She loved everybody. Her home was a comfort zone for many people, both young and old alike. She will truly be missed by all!
She leaves cherishing her loving memories, her husband, Donald Brooks; four devoted and loving children, two daughters, Angela Person and Cynthia Brooks; two sons, Donald and Anthony Brooks all of Waverly;three brothers, Fenton Turner, III (Pearl) of Hawaii, Ferman A. Turner of Hopewell, VA and Eddie Turner (Beverly) of Waco, TX; one sister, Barbara Clanton (Ivory) of Waverly, VA; thirteen grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren; four aunts, Evangelist Bernice Holmes of Surry, VA, Mary Tucker of Disputanta, VA, Warnetta Turner and Minerva Turner both of Waverly, VA; two uncles, Hoyd Turner of Waverly, VA and Robert Turner of Richmond, VA; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Her devoted extended family and friends includes, Janice Jones, Katherine Daniels, Yvonne Smith, Blanche Jones and Yvonne Howard. The family extends a special "Thanks" to Angela Gray, her caregiver, and Southside Regional Medical Center and staff.
Funeral service will be held at 12:00p.m. Thursday, Nov. 21, 2013, at Liberty Baptist Church, Waverly, VA, Rev. Karl Marshall, pastor, officiating, Elder Willie Williams, eulogizing. The family meet at 418 Oak Street Thursday, November 21, 2013. Interment will follow at Waverly Cemetery.
