Mr. Mark Lamont Hamlin, affectionately known as “Lamont” or “Mont,” of Wakefield, Virginia, peacefully answered the call to eternal rest on September 4, 2026. He was the son of the late Monroe Hamlin and Vernice Hamlin of Dendron, Virginia.

Mark was educated in the Sussex County Public School System and attended Sussex Central High School, where he enjoyed playing basketball. His love for the game became one of the many memorable parts of his younger years.

In 2002, Mark began building a family with his devoted friend, LaDonna King. Together, they were blessed with two sons, Mark L. Hamlin Jr. and Xavier M. Hamlin. Mark took great pride in being a father and cherished the special bond he shared with his children.

Mark was a devoted father, beloved family member, and loyal friend. He had a way of making his presence known and leaving those around him with memories they would carry for years to come. Those who knew and loved Mark will fondly remember his personality, his friendship, and especially his favorite saying, “This thing Right Right.” It was a phrase uniquely his and one that will continue to bring smiles and treasured memories to those who knew him best.

Mark was preceded in death by his parents, Monroe and Vernice Hamlin, and his brother, Adam Busby.

Left to cherish his memory and continue his legacy are his two sons, Mark L. Hamlin Jr. and Xavier M. Hamlin, both of Wakefield, Virginia; three sisters, Joan, Michelle, and Patty, all of Chester, Pennsylvania; four brothers, Keith Hamlin of Delaware, Jonelle Carter of Surry, Virginia, Remon Ellis of Wakefield, Virginia, and James Moody of Florida; his devoted friend and mother of his children, LaDonna King of Wakefield, Virginia; a very special aunt, Clara Gonzales; two special nephews, Joseph Carter of Delaware and Derrick Hamlin of Virginia; and a devoted friend, Lionel Roland.

Mark also leaves to cherish his memory a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and many friends whose lives were touched by his presence.

Although Mark’s earthly journey has come to an end, the love he shared, the memories he created, and the special moments spent with family and friends will forever remain in their hearts. “This thing Right Right” will continue to echo as a loving reminder of the one and only Lamont.

Public Viewing will be 10:00am - 5:00pm Saturday, September 19, 2026 at Peace Funeral Home, 237 Railroad Avenue, Waverly, Virginia. 

In accordance with the wishes of the family, there will be no public funeral service at this time. The family sincerely appreciates the many prayers, expressions of love, kind words, and acts of support extended to them during this time of bereavement.
