Manfrey N.
Bailey Jr.
August 5, 1950 – January 12, 2025
Manfrey N. Bailey Jr. affectionately known as "Matt" to family and friends was born August 5, 1950, to the late Manfrey Sr. and Eunice Bailey. Manfrey Jr. graduated from L. P. Jackson High School, Dendron, Virginia. He attended Lear Siegler Institute, Silver Springs, Maryland, as well as Thomas Nelson Community College.
He began working at Firestone in Hopewell, Virginia as a Draw Twist Operator and Creeler. Next he served four years in the United States Army as Rank, Spec-4, 31-M20 Radio Relay Carrier Attendant. After that he went to Newport News Shipyard Building and Drydock as a Sheet Metal Mechanic, Gwaltney LTD Packing Plant as a Maintenance Mechanic and retired from Surry County Public Schools Maintenance Team.
Manfrey Jr. was baptized and gave his life to Christ at an early age at First Baptist Church, Dendron, Virginia.
Manfrey Jr. loved fixing any and everything becoming known as "The Lawnmower Man". He enjoyed people watching which often turned into lengthy conversations and laughter, if you know you know. He loved his family, friends and especially riding his 4-wheeler sideways. He was known for always being outside waving his hands in the air as people passed by blowing their horns. He also loved his flip phone and refused to upgrade no matter how much the family insisted, he sometimes shouted it was all he needed.
Manfrey Jr. was preceded in death by his parents, Manfrey Sr and Eunice Bailey and oldest sister, Yvonne B. Pierce.
He is survived by his daughter Mysohia T. Crocker-Nelson (Lyskoski), sisters, Gloria B. Brown (Charles) and Elaine B. Wooden (Ricky), one cousin/sister Patricia Cook, one Goddaughter/niece Monique James, nieces, Ondrea Barr (Yusef), Joi Wooden; nephew, Ricky D. Wooden, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
We will miss Manfrey Jr. We all have special memories of him that will live on forever to include his smile and contagious laughter. We thank you Dad, Brother, Uncle, Goddad, Cousin and Friend for being who you were "Matt".
