Obituary

Madeline Royal Evans was born on May 6, 1928, in Harlem, N.Y., to Gladys and George Royal Sr. She was predeceased by: her parents, husband, Theodore Evans; brother, George Royal Jr.; twin sister, Theresa Royal; and brother, Richard Royal.

Madeline started her early education at Resurrection Catholic School in New York City and attended Commerce High School, N.Y.

On Aug. 3, 1947, she married Theodore Evans and from this union five children were born: Marsha, Margo, Paul, Christina and Troy.

Madeline worked as a nurse's aide for the city of New York at Metropolitan Hospital. Upon relocating to Virginia, she was employed with the Commonwealth of Virginia at Southside Virginia Training Center until her retirement.

Madeline was a member of the Eastern Virginia Senior Citizens of Sussex County, the Waverly chapter. She was a former foster grandparent at Chambliss Elementary School. After relocating to Alexandria, she was a volunteer at the Alexandria Urban League.

She leaves to cherish her memory: her children, Marsha Moss (Johnnie), Margo Evans, Paul Evans, Christina Urquhart and Troy Evans (Elizabeth); her beloved grandchildren, Jeanai, Turon, Chantae, Chavonne, Daryl, Charnea, Michael, Eric, Tiffany and Chelsae; eight great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Grace Royal; one foster brother, Carl Garrison (Frances); one sister-in-law, Dorothy Royal; and a host of nieces; nephews; cousins; and friends. Madeline was loved by many and she will be always in our hearts.

Viewing for Mrs. Evans will be from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. and a wake will be held from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 6, 2013, at Peace-Bland Funeral Home, Waverly, and one hour prior to service at The Shrine of the Infant Jesus of Prague, Wakefield.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 7, 2013, at The Shrine of the Infant Jesus of Prague, Wakefield, Father Joseph Majerski, celebrant. Interment will follow at the Booker T. Memorial Cemetery, Wakefield.
