Obituary

When I think of the goodness of Jesus, and what He has done for me, my soul cries out, "hallelujah" praise God for saving me.

A heart of gold stopped beating, two shining eyes at rest, God broke our hearts to prove He only takes the best.  On Monday, December 19, 2022, God in His infinite wisdom, called home our beloved father, grandfather, uncle, cousin, and friend, Linwood James Crocker, Sr. He was born on June 1, 1941, in Wakefield, VA, to the late Gurley and Annie Boykins Crocker. His four siblings, Pete, Calvin, Elmo, and Andrew Crocker, a devoted niece, Mary Ann Crocker French, and his loving wife of forty-eight years, Orris C. Crocker, preceded him in death.

At an early age, he began his Christian journey at Ebenezer Baptist Church, Ivor, VA. He later joined First Baptist Church, Wakefield, VA where he served as a Trustee for many years.

Linwood, Sr. was a Vietnam Veteran and he received the Vietnam Service Medal and many Expert Marksman badges. He was raised as a Freemason on September 12, 1973, and served 49 years. He was a Past Master of Union Love Lodge 153 of the Prince Hall Masons in Wakefield, VA.   He was highly involved in helping new members learn rites and progress through the degrees of Freemasonry.  He was an avid hunter and was a founding member of the Rangers Hunting Club, Wakefield, VA. He worked for many years at Brown and Williamson, Petersburg, VA before retiring from Sussex County Public Schools as the Maintenance Supervisor.

Linwood, Sr. leaves many fond memories to cherish to his devoted sons, Keith Crocker, Sr. (Priscilla) of Sedley, VA, and Linwood Crocker, Jr. (Prenda) of DeWitt, VA; one daughter, Joan Riddick of Chesapeake, VA; four grandchildren, Kierra Crocker, Keith Crocker, Jr., Peyton Crocker, and Camryn Crocker; four special nieces and nephews, Lorraine (Raymond) Thornton, Carl Crocker, Andrew (Wanda) Crocker, and Elaine (Ricky) Wooden; and many other relatives and friends.
