Kathy J.
Patterson
November 26, 1960 – August 1, 2024
Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light. Matthew 11:28-30 (KJV)
On Thursday, August 1, 2024, our beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, niece, cousin, and friend departed this earthly life at Bons Secours Southside Regional Medical Center in Petersburg, Virginia.
Kathy Juanita Patterson was born on November 26, 1960, in Sussex County, Virginia. She was one of eight children born to the late Raymond and Nell Patterson. Although she was the family's baby girl, Kathy was never shy of words when it came to expressing herself. She was educated in Sussex County Public Schools and would often share many fun stories about her school years. Receiving her General Education Diploma and Personal Care Aide Certificate was an achievement for Kathy, but nothing compared to the greatest accomplishment of becoming a mother to her three beautiful children who she adored, Monica, Marcus, and Mashanda.
Kathy was baptized at an early age at First Baptist Church in Wakefield, Virginia where she enjoyed attending Vacation Bible School and Sunday School as a child. When she was older, she served in numerous capacities including the Choir, Hospitality, and Women's Ministry.
Kathy was always considered the life of the party and enjoyed being her unapologetic self every day. Everyone gravitated to Kathy because of her big heart, her smile, and her infectious laugh. There was never a dull moment in her presence as she always had something to say that would lift your spirits and brighten your day. She loved being a member of the Young Creators Social Club where she loved to attend the many festivities that the club sponsored. Kathy loved everyone, but most of all, she loved her family, her plants, cleaning her house, cooking Sunday dinners every Sunday, and taking care of Marcus.
In addition to her parents and other relatives, Kathy was preceded in death by her brothers Raymond, Jr. and Ruben "Lee" Patterson, and her niece, Shaniqua "Denay" Patterson.
She leaves to cherish her memories: two daughters, Monica Patterson, and Mashanda Patterson, her only son, Marcus Patterson; four grandchildren, Kamryn Williams, Kamron Gilliam, Kailyn Gilliam, and Hailey Johnson; four sisters, Elizabeth Judkins, (James), Peggy Purdie, Janet "Loretta" Patterson, and Valarie Patterson Ricks; two brothers, Kelvin Patterson (Lisa) and Allen Tonkins; four aunts, Gladys Stringfield, Louise Stith, Dorothy Gay, and Barbara Gay; one uncle Richard "Butch" Gay and one God sister, Myesha Britton and a host of devoted cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends including George Claiborne, Glay Clanton, and Angela Gay Davis. Rest well our sweet girl, until we meet again.
A Celebration of Life Service be at 2:00pm on Saturday, August 10, 2024, at First Baptist Church in Wakefield, Virginia, Rev. Jerry Parham, Pastor. Interment will follow at Booker T. Memorial Park, Wakefield, Virginia.
Please keep the family uplifted in prayer.
