Joyce Ann Walters, age 68 departed this life Sunday, April 17 ^th at 8:10am, Sunday morning, at Duke Hospital North Carolina.

Joyce Ann accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at First Baptist Church, Dendron.  She was educated in the Surry County Public School System and graduated with the Class of 1972.  Joyce worked  20 years with Kmart Williamsburg, VA

She enjoyed word search puzzle books, and board games such as Connect Four, Operation, and her favorite was Trouble. She truly enjoyed all games that challenged her mind. During the winter months, she would engage in crocheting, taking the entire winter to complete one blanket.

She enjoyed watching professional basketball, her favorite team was the Miami Heat. Dwayne Wade was Mr. Basketball to Joyce, an all-around player, and her favorite. She enjoyed talking on the phone as she watched the game on television.

Linda Bailey-Jones was a devoted friend that would pick her up and ride her out to have some laughs with the family. She enjoyed sitting on the porch where she waved and talked with those that passed her way. She had an intense love for her only child reminding others often that no matter his age that he was still "her baby and she changed his diapers, he didn't change hers".

Proceeded in death by her parents Richard and Dorothy Walter, grandmother Florence Jenkins, sisters Alice Faye Walter, Catherine Johnson, Marlene Peace, Ethel Pierce, the love of her life Harry "Chris" Thompson, and two nieces Angelia Johnson-Gillyard and LaRita T. Pierce.

Joyce Ann leaves to cherish her presence here on Earth, her son, Jerel O. Walter (Latisha) of Raleigh, N.C., two sisters Hazel Johnson of Norfolk, VA., and Dorothy Rose of Dendron, VA., two grandchildren Jamison and Journee Walter of Raleigh, N.C. and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family, and friends.

The Family will receive friends from 6:00pm to 8:00pm Friday, April 22, 2022 at First Baptist Church, Dendron, Virginia.

A Celebration of Life Service will be 1:00 pm Saturday, April 23, 2022, at First Baptist Church Dendron, Virginia.
