Mr. Joseph Newby of Wakefield, VA departed this life on Wednesday, May 6 ^th , 2020 at the Wonder City Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, Hopewell, VA.   Joseph was born on September 23 ^rd , 1922 to the late Jacob & the late Hattie Pretlow.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy M. Newby, his son, Joseph Newby, Jr, and his 12 siblings.

Joseph was a World War II veteran and devoted Deacon in the Lord's church. He retired from the Newport News Shipbuilders in 1994.  He was a faithful member of the Cypress Baptist Church in Elberon, VA. Deacon Newby loved fishing, hunting, gardening, and reading his bible. He firmly believed that things were possible if you only believe.

He leaves to cherish his memories 4 loving children. Joyce Conner, Janette Newby. Earnest Newby and Dorrie Gross. 8 grandchildren, Shelley Lewis (Shawn), Brian Corner (Stacey), Carlos Griffin, Corey Corner, Sonya Newby, Darius Newby, Tobirus Newby, Brittney Gross, and several great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for Deacon Joseph Newby will be held at 11:00am Friday, May 15, 2020, at the Cypress Baptist Church, Dendron, VA,  Bishop Shawn Lewis of Rhema Word Ministries will be delivering the eulogy. Interment will follow at the Church Cemetery.
