James Parker
Sr.
April 30, 1953 – February 3, 2025
Time to Be Born…James Parker, Sr. was born on April 30, 1953, in Sussex County, Virginia, one of 10 children to the late Herman and Eula Parker. James slipped away to his heavenly home surrounded by his loving family on February 3, 2025. James attended Sussex County schools and graduated from the Job Corps.
A Time to Harvest…After graduating from Job Corp, James began his career as a longdistance truck driver, traveling around the country for Food Lion Distribution. After 10 years on the road, James demonstrated an entrepreneurial spirit and retired in 1995 to focus on his passion
as an entrepreneur. He then started his own tree trimming service, Parker Tree Service. James serviced many customers throughout the DMV with pride and excellence. James' passion for his company inspired his grandson to follow in his footsteps as a tree trimmer.
A Time to Love… Along with his daughter Pam, James married his lifelong soul mate, Carrie Conaway, on September 26, 1970. From this union, three children were born: Michael, Lutricia, and James, Jr. James and Carrie, his sweet Peaches, were inseparable. Their love story began in junior high school, where they bonded over shared dreams.
James and Carrie (Peaches) enjoyed 54 joyful years of the deepest love, happiest marriage, and truest partnership that one could imagine ... He gave her the experience of being deeply understood, truly supported, and completely and utterly loved. Most importantly, he left her the most amazing children in the world.
James was a rock. When Carrie got upset, he stayed calm. When she was worried, he said it would be ok. When she wasn't sure what to do, he figured it out. He was completely dedicated to his family in every way. His spirit, his soul, and his amazing ability to give is still with her. It lives on in the stories people will be sharing of how he touched their lives, in the love that is visible in the eyes of their family and friends, in the spirit and resilience of their children. Things will never be the same, but the world will be better for the years James and Carrie shared.
James was a loving partner, provider, father, and friend. James was a gentle, unassuming man with a sly sense of humor, inviting and easygoing. Known for his patience and wisdom, James was a natural mentor. He was famous for his unwavering dedication to his family, teaching them life lessons and valuable skills. James never gave up in any situation, and no matter what, he looked out for his family and those closest to him when they needed him; he was always there. Healways made time for his children and maintained an amazing relationship with them throughout their adulthood.
A Time to Serve…James was a shining light in the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing him. His journey on this earth was one marked by love, compassion, and unwavering faith in God. James joined the Mt Moriah church in 2000 and served as a faithful choir member and through that, he channeled his love of singing and his love of God. James would sing in the church every chance he got for many years even after he was ordained as Deacon in 2003. James served as the Chairman of the Deacon Board and diligently served until his health failed.
A Time to Die…James was a respected spiritual leader who touched countless lives with his wisdom and compassion. He was a pillar of the Colonial Heights community and loved his subdivision neighbors.
James, one of ten children, was preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Eula Parker, and four brothers, Herman Parker, Melvin Parker, Alton Parker, and Jimmie Parker, and one sister, Christine Conaway.
James always said the happiest moments of his life were when his family gathered. We will carry on his will and continue to stay strong and united as a family.
