Mr. James Edward Lowery Jr. of 11735 Jerusalem Plank Road, Waverly, Virginia entered into eternal rest at his home on December 25, 2022. He was born July 18, 1932, to the late James Edward Lowery Sr. and Jessie Ross Lowery.  He is preceded in death by his wife Delilah R. Lowery, and six siblings; Harold Lowery Sr., Constance Fowler, Bessie Booth, Marion Newsome, William Lowery, and Mabel Butts.

Mr. Lowery received his education in the Sussex County school system. He later became a licensed Barber and retired from Ft. Lee Army Base, Petersburg, Virginia as a Barber where he worked for over forty-plus years.

Deacon Lowery was a faithful dedicated member of Wilborne Baptist Church where he served as a deacon for fifty-plus years and many of these years were in the position of Chairman of the Deacon Board. He also served on many committees and boards during his membership at Wilborne Baptist Church and various community outreaches. He was a man of great wisdom, knowledge, and understanding. His counsel and guidance have influenced many.

Left to cherish fond memories are his three children James E. Lowery III,  of Petersburg, Virginia, Renee Lowery of Chesapeake, Virginia, and Eric Lowery (Sandi) of Richmond, Virginia; eight grandchildren, one great-grandchild; two brothers Preston Lowery (Juliette) and Marvin Lowery (Peggy); and a number of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, friends, and neighbors.

A Celebration of Life for Deacon James Lowery Jr. will be held at 1:07 pm on Saturday, January 7, 2023, at Wilborne Baptist Church, 7138 Newville Road, Waverly, Virginia, Rev. Clarence M. Thweatt Jr., officiating and eulogist. Interment will follow at Wilborne Baptist Church Cemetery.
