Obituary

Jacqueline Thomasine Smalls of Brooklyn, NY was born August 5, 1941, to the late George Flowers Sr. and the late Blanche Jones Flowers in Waverly, VA.

She graduated from Sussex County Training School in June 1959. She moved to Brooklyn, NY shortly after graduating from high school. Jackie got her first job working at a sweater factory where she would end up meeting her ex-husband Louis Smalls. They got married in September 1961 and welcomed their first child Sharon Smalls, on October 24, 1961. They welcomed their first grandchild, Jo'Von Antwan Evans on November 2, 1980. Jackie was head over heels in love with her grandson "Jack-Jack". Six years later on May 15, 1986, her granddaughter Te-Asia Evans was born.

Jackie was a die-hard fan of baseball. She loved the NY Yankees, especially Derek Jeter. She retired as a Counselor for the Department of Welfare in 2006. Jackie was the life of the party. She loved her Bacardi rum mixed with coke in 1 hand and a cigarette in the other with some Isley Brothers, Temptations, or Marvin Gaye playing in the background.

Jackie was not only full of life but also had a very kind heart and was a giving woman. It didn't matter who you were if you needed help she was there for you with open arms.

She was the baby of 13 children (spoiled) lol. Even so, she still was a selfless person and gave to numerous charities every month. She cherished family and became a Great Grandmother to a baby boy name Allen Hemingway on June 19, 2019.

Unfortunately, Jacqueline's health took a turn for the worst April 2020. She lost the battle that she fought really hard against September 4, 2020, at Richmond Memorial Hospital in Staten Island, NY.

Jackie was preceded in death by her ex-husband, Louis Smalls.; ex-brother-in-law, James Smalls.; grandson, Jo'Von Evans.; nephew, John E. Mack; nieces, Vivian "Boo" Mack and Denise Greenhill; all 12 of her siblings and parents.

She left to cherish her memory; one daughter Sharon Smalls of Linden, NJ; one granddaughter Te-Asia Hemingway of Avenel, NJ; one great-grandson Allen Hemingway of Avenel, NJ; one sister-in-law Wilma Flowers of Waverly, VA, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and devoted friends.

The Granddaughter of Jackie would like to give a special thanks to the Greenhill and Seymour Families for your dedication and devotion to her grandmother. Renita and Moe Moe thank you for all the numerous trips and long conversations to make sure she was okay and didn't need for anything!
