Ivory Clanton
Jr.
October 18, 1950 – January 25, 2026
On Sunday, January 25, 2026, Ivory Clanton Jr. transitioned peacefully into eternal rest at his home in Waverly, Virginia, surrounded and supported by his loving family. Ivory was born in Waverly, Virginia, on October 18, 1950, to the late Ivory Clanton and Doretha Flowers Clanton.
As a young man, Ivory was baptized and became a member of First Baptist Church of Waverly, Virginia. Later in life, as his health began to decline, he attended Rose of Sharon Apostolic Church of Waverly virtually, with his loving wife always by his side. In his words, "Bishop Harper is my main man."
In addition to his parents, Ivory was preceded in death by his two brothers, Tyrone Clanton and Earl Clanton; his beautiful great-granddaughter, Princess Anylah Shaw; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
Ivory attended Sussex County Public Schools and was well known around town as "Fox" and "the dancing machine." He cherished all those who were near and dear to him. He worked at Waverly Hardwood for many years and was a Master Barber for over 55 years. In his later working years, he truly enjoyed working side by side with his oldest son at Another Level Barber Shop in Waverly.
Everyone knew "Fox" as a die-hard Dallas Cowboys fan, a man who loved building and fixing anything around the house, and a true car and truck lover. He enjoyed fixing up cars and trucks just to sell them, only to find his next project. After retirement, he loved relaxing while watching old westerns, Family Feud, football, and eating his favorite meal—hot fried chicken with four or five pieces of any kind of bread—beside his loving wife of 52 years, with whom he shared 59 beautiful years together.
He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife, Barbara A. Clanton; one loving and devoted daughter, Rachel Watkins (James); two sons, Keith Clanton (Vonda) and Ivory Clanton Jr.; and his loving and devoted grandchildren who adored their "Papa": Mishanda McFarlane (Mosiah), Shaniqua Baines, Vonquesha Clanton, Olivia Clanton, Michael Gurley, Torrey Ripley, and Shardae Watkins.
He is also survived by three great-grandchildren: Azavion Shaw, Miyah McFarlane, and Jamarion Avans; one sister, Shirley Clanton; one loving godchild whom he and his wife helped raise, Lebre Harris; and three godsons, Montreal Hinton, Delon Brown, and Mark McCutchen.
Ivory was truly blessed with a host of loving nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, extended family, friends, and devoted neighbors. He was forever grateful for all the children around town who knew him as "Papa" and for the friends and family who supported him during his health challenges.
He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him, as he was well known throughout the town of Waverly as Papa, Fox, and Master Barber.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, February 7, 2026, at the Rose of Sharon Apostolic Church, 438 Elm Street, Waverly, Virginia, with Bishop Tyrone Harper, Pastor, officiating.
