Herbert Lee Drew, affectionately known as "Shank" of 29404 Lobbshop Road, Waverly, Virginia, departed on December 2, 2013 to find eternal rest.
He was a native and lifetime resident of Sussex County, born the 7th of 10 kids on April 21, 1943 to the late William Waverly and Gladys Eley Drew.
"Shank" was a very petite man in feature but very strong physically with a loving heart. He was full of life with an out spoken personality and was known and loved by man near and far. Even though he didn't receive complete education God blessed him with knowledge of a logger, mechanic, plumber, carpenter, electrician and a wonderful cook in which it all became his livelihood until his declining health. "Shank" didn't mind sharing his know how with those who wanted to learn.
His favorite pass time was entertaining his family & friends with music and his love for the card games of poker & spades.
"Shank" was loved and will definitely be missed. Physically he's no longer here but he will remain in most of our hearts.
"Shank" was preceded in death by his, Father & Mother, two brothers, Leroy and Reginald; one sister, Rosa Harrison, two nephews, Richard and Maurice Drew.
He leaves to cherish his memories, son Antuin Warren of Norfolk, VA, four brothers, Robert (Mary) of Surry, VA, William (Patricia) of Waverly, VA, Arthur of Wakefield, VA and Andrew (Jennie) of Washington, DC; two sisters, Thelma (Willie) of Richmond, VA and Linda of Maryland; two uncles, James Eley of Ivor, VA and Timothy Eley of Windsor, VA; one aunt, Cortelia Newby of Carrolton, VA; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and lifelong friend, James Brooks of Waverly, VA and Vernon Graves Jr. of Petersburg, VA whom he always loved as his "boy".
We all will miss you and we all will love you always! We Love you Uncle "Shank"
A memorial service for Mr. Drew will be Thursday, December 12, 2013 at 12:00pm, at the Chapel of Peace Bland Funeral Home, 237 Railroad Avenue, Waverly, VA 23890.
