Gray
April 26, 1938 – March 19, 2021
On Friday, March 19 th , 2021 God called home to rest Gracie L. Gray. She was born April 26 th , 1938 to the late James K. Whitney and the late Florence H. Whitney. She is preceded in death by her parents James & Florence Whitney; her husband Clarence R. Gray; her sisters Mary Ricks and Gladys Ricks; her daughter Vanessa G. Johnson and her granddaughter Martina D. Johnson.
Gracie received her formal education from Southampton County Public Schools. On June 25 th , 1955, she married the love of her life, Clarence R. Gray. She was employed at Seward and Luggage out of Petersburg, Virginia. After retirement, Gracie took pleasure in taking care of her home and family, fishing, completing puzzles, watching game shows, and cooking.
There is no question that she was a woman that loved the Lord. She was a devoted member of Union Hill United Church of Christ until she moved her membership to Rose of Sharon Apostolic Church where she served on the Missionary Department. Gracie loved to praise the Lord!
She leaves to adore and treasure her memory her committed children, Mayvis Petticolas of Waverly, Virginia and Clarence "Mike" Gray of Waverly, Virginia; one brother Frank Whitney of Massachusetts; two sisters-in-law, Stella "Virginia" Thomas of Newport News, Virginia and Claudine Green of Hampton, Virginia; her loving aunts and uncles, Joyce Winfield, Louise Conley, Lucy Williams, Dolly Hicks, Marvin Whitney, and Sidney Whitney; seven grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Gracie, we thank you for your words of wisdom, smile, and laughter. You will be deeply missed but we will forever hold you in our hearts. Take your rest.
A Celebration of Life Graveside Service will be 12:00Noon Saturday, March 27, 2021, at Union Hill United Church, Sedley, VA.
