Obituary

Geraldine Marie Parker, 71, of 233 Dogwood St., Waverly, VA, departed this life on 14 January 2020 at Southside Regional Medical Center, Petersburg, VA. Geraldine lived a full and rewarding life which was exemplified by her love for her family and her fellow man.  Geraldine was preceded in death by her mother, Beatrice Parker; her father, John (Kenny) Parker; her sister, Rita Parker McLaurin; and her sister-in-law, Wol Sun Parker. She leaves to cherish her memory one devoted brother Leroy Parker, four beloved nieces; Tamela Parker Weatherall/Willie, Keesha Parker, Anissa Parker Foster/Alan, and Melissa Green, one nephew Kerry McLaurin, and brother-in-law Freddie McLaurin. Though she was biologically childless, her "children" included Quentin Parker (nephew), Qhahlyl Parker (great-nephew), Kiara Parker (great-niece), and Katelynn Parker (great-niece). Other relatives include great-nephews James Carter, Antonio Cole, Alan Foster III, and great-great-nephew Zion Weatherall. Great nieces include Audrianna Green, Nikaya Carter, Cormari Bland, Asriel, Briaunna, and Chloe Austin, Dominisha Weatherall, and Olivia and Abigail Foster. And not to be forgotten, are all our cousins from Waverly, Homeville, Littleton,  West Point, Portsmouth, and New Jersey.

Geraldine was a person who truly loved people and she showed this throughout her entire life. She was a straightforward but yet very loving person. She had a huge personality and was the kind of person you could not easily forget once you had met her. Her life's journey led her into nursing, where she had the opportunity to care for many people, in some instances easing their transition from life to life hereafter. Nursing was her God-given gift, and she exercised that gift gladly, to the benefit of those she had the opportunity to serve.

In accordance with her expressed wishes, following her homegoing service Geraldine's remains will be cremated and returned to the earth, as her spirit has already returned to God who gave it. Special thanks to Geraldine's cousin, Leishia Parker, the Ricks family, cousin Alberta Chalmers and her husband Claude, and to any others whose names may not come to mind at this moment. Last and certainly not least, our heartfelt thanks and gratitude go to Vivian Green, who was with Geraldine on a day-to-day basis, in spite of her own health challenges. To God be the glory!!!

Homegoing services for Geraldine will be held at 12 o'clock noon, Wednesday, January 22, 2020, at Peace Funeral Home, 237 Railroad Ave, Waverly 23890. The family requests that, in lieu of floral arrangements, condolence text messages may be sent to (804) 901-9033, or emails to lparker804@gmail.com.
