On Tuesday, October 21, 2014, God saw fit to call our beloved husband, father, son, grandpa, brother, uncle, cousin and friend home to eternal rest.

Fred L. Gay, Sr. "Monkey" was born November 12, 1942, to the late Nathaniel and Gracie Gay. Fred attended Sussex County Public Schools. He retired from Archer Daniels Midland Company in 1995 and was a member of First Baptist Church, Wakefield, VA.

Cherishing great memories are the following: his loving and committed wife of 49 years, Dorothy R. Gay. His devoted children, Faye Stringfield (Eric) of Suffolk, VA; Angela Davis (Willie) of Varina, VA; Ronnie Gay of Suffolk, VA; Sergeant Major Fred L. Gay Jr. (Joyce) of Killeen, TX, Dorothy M. Gay of Wakefield, VA, Terrious Gay of Virginia Beach, VA and a devoted and special son, Rodriques Turner of Wakefield,VA. He also leaves four sisters, Nell Patterson and Louise Stith (Robert) of Wakefield,VA, Gladys Stringfield of Waverly,VA, Phyllis Ruffin (James) of Dale City, VA; One Brother, Richard Gay Of Wakefield,VA. Sister- in- laws Irma Gay, Linda Gray, Thelma Baines, Lora Bailey (Hubert) of Wakefield, VA and Eunice Gray of Waverly, VA; Brother -in –laws, Lawrence Urquhart of Wakefield VA and Robert Gray (Sandra) of Tampa, FL. His grandchildren: Charis Johnson, Rasheka Smith, (Roderick) Quashawn Burgess, Ty'Quesha Skipper, Ty'Shad Skipper, Tekeim Reynard, Ty'Rod Skipper, Ravynn Stringfield, Brianna Gay, Khalid Gay, Trevon Skipper, Jakea Harris, Jerry Harris, Sarique Gay, Shanice Vernon, Shavonda Vernon, Chamique Burgess, Kermisha Graham (Brandon), Tykera Woodhouse (Jarelle), and Tyrik Gay. His great-grandchildren: Camani Johnson, Maurice Johnson, Roman Smith, Asanti Burgess, Lauryn Graham, Dru West Graham, Zamora Woodhouse and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

The body can be viewed on Sunday, October 26, 2014 at the Peace-Bland Funeral Home, Waverly, VA. Funeral services for Fred L. Gay, Sr. will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, October 27, 2014, at the First Baptist Church, 217 S. County Drive, Wakefield, VA. Interment will follow at the Booker T. Memorial Cemetery, Wakefield, VA.
