Obituary

On the evening of October 29, 2025, heaven gained a gentle soul, and this world lost one of its brightest lights, Mr. Earnest "Morris" Jones. Surrounded by love, he peacefully entered eternal rest at the age of 77.

Earnest was born on March 1, 1948, to the late Mack and Mamie Jones. His life was filled with love, laughter, and kindness. Earnest loved to talk and smile, two things that truly showed who he was. He could turn a simple conversation into laughter and always made people feel welcome wherever he went. His joyful heart and warm smile could light up any room, and his presence was one you could never forget.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Annie Lee Jones and Margie Marie Brown; two brothers, Alton Jones and Roger Lee Jones; and two brothers-in-law, Wendell Hatch and Albert Brown.

Earnest lived at 19553 Log Road in Disputanta, Virginia, where he was lovingly cared for by his lifelong companion, Ms. Shirley Cole. Her patience, kindness, and care brought him great comfort, especially in his later years, and will always be remembered with deep gratitude by his family.

A proud graduate of Sussex County Public Training School, Earnest worked for many years at Newport News Shipyard and Smithfield Packing. He was known for his strong work ethic, dedication, and friendly personality. No matter where he went, Earnest was always ready to lend a helping hand, share a good story, and flash that big smile that everyone loved.

He enjoyed the simple things in life gardening, fishing, traveling, and spending time with family and friends. Earnest loved being around people, talking, laughing, and spreading joy. His easy-going spirit and cheerful nature made every moment around him brighter.

Those who knew Earnest will always remember his kind heart, his love for talking and smiling, and the happiness he brought into every room. His presence made a difference, and his legacy of love, laughter, and joy will forever live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know him.

He leaves to cherish his memories his devoted companion and caregiver, Ms. Shirley Cole; three loving sons, Earnest L. Williams of Newport News, VA, Mandwell M. Williams of Dallas, TX, and Antony L. Williams of Newport News, VA; three grandchildren, Dominique L. Lewis, Mandwell Jr. Williams, and Imani J. Williams; three sisters, Connie Jones, Yvonne Ruffin (Eugene), and Jenice Hatch; sister-in-law, Jennifer Jones, all of Waverly, VA; four brothers, Mack Jones (Janice), Joseph Jones (Hester), and Carlton Jones, all of Waverly, VA, and Donald Jones of Petersburg, VA; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, and friends who loved him dearly.

The Family will assemble at Peace Funeral Home at 12:15pm.
