Obituary

Earl Whitmoore Clary Sr. was born on September 18, 1948, to the late Whit and Lucy Clary in Southampton County, Ivor Virginia. He was one of four children, including James Clary. On August 24, 2021, Earl transitioned into eternal rest.

He was preceded in death by James Clary and Curley Lunsford.

At an early age, Earl accepted Christ as his personal Savior.  He was a lifelong member of New Branch Baptist Church, Ivor, VA.  As a youth, he was active in the youth choir.  In the later years, he was the chairman of the trustee board as chairman he was.  Wherever needed, Earl was always willing to help.  He loved his church, his church family, and his Pastor, Rev Frank L. Aikens Sr.

He graduated from River View High School in Courtland, VA in 1966.  His work history includes Gwaltney, Smithfield, VA, Newport News Shipyard, Brown and Williamson Tobacco, Petersburg, VA, and Supervisor at Allied Colloid of Suffolk, VA, later known as Ciba Chemical Company. When he retired, it was BASF Chemical Company.  In his later years, he worked for LogistiCare, now known as ModivCare, and Southeastran as a volunteer driver.

Earl was an avid motorcycle rider and his favorite color was black. When he first got a bike, he could not drive it home.  His brother-in-law, the late Calvin Lunsford drove it to Ivor, Virginia, and taught him how to ride and he loved riding bikes.  He was one of the founding members of the Friendly Riders Club of Sedley, Virginia, he also served as president.  This club is about 40 years old.  He loved the members and has taken long trips riding his bike.  Some of the trips include Kansas, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Arkansas, Las Vegas, California, and Georgia three times.  The last trip was to Macon Georgia about three weeks ago.

Earl leaves to cherish his memories his wife Rev. Betty Davis Clary of 49 years and 10 months; a son, Earl W. Clary Jr. (Erica) of Chesterfield, VA; a daughter, Latanya Butler of Waverly, VA; seven grandchildren, Shanelle Clary of Greensville, NC, LaShanna Clary, and Shaniyah Butler both of Waverly, VA, Earl W.
