She received her formal education from the Sussex County Training School. She was a faithful employee of The Forestry Department, The Waverly Nursing Home and retired from International Paper Company, all of Waverly. Dot loved to greet family and friends, fishing, enjoyed shopping and going out to eat until her health declined.


She leaves to cherish her memories; six daughters, Diana Smith, Brenda Greene (John), Alfreda Taylor (Timothy), Sharon Smith, all of Waverly, Arleen Smith (Archie) of Petersburg, Va., and Linda Johnson (Gerald) of Smithfield, Va.; one son, Tyrone Smith (Jackie) of Waverly, Va.; one son-in-law, James Watkins of Waverly, Va.; one daughter-in-law, Robin Smith of Waverly, Va.; one sister-in-law, Thelma Newsome (George) of Richmond, Va.; 16 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Devoted family and friends are Queen Smith, Adrienne Turner, Alfred Futrell, Bernard Gurley, niece, Doris Hamlin and special grandson, Toriyonda Smith. A special thanks to Southside Regional ICU Unit, Waverly Healthcare Center and caregiver, Diana Smith.


She believed that family should always support each other and stay close. Our beloved Dot Smith was the last matriach of Herbert and Mary Stith, she will live in our hearts forever.


Funeral services for Mrs. Smith will be conducted 2:00pm, Saturday, June 7, 2014 at Liberty Baptist Church, Waverly, Va., Rev. K. Marshall, Pastor and Rev. Bobby Ricks, Eulogizing. Interment will follow in the Waverly Cemetery.
