Obituary

Dorethea Hunt Brown 87 was born September 30, 1936, and died peacefully at her residence on December 27, 2023.  She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years Howard Brown Sr., her parents Waverly Hunt and Lena Hunt, five brothers, Waverly Hunt Jr. Dempsey Hunt, Lexie Hunt, John Hunt Sr., and Mckinly Hunt, three sisters, Gertrude Perkins, Pocahontas Powell, and Eunice Lee.

Dorethea was baptized as a Jehovah's Witness at the age of 14 in the year 1950.  She attended many assemblies and conventions over the years and even several international conventions at Yankee Stadium in New York.  She truly loved her god Jehovah and even as her health began to decline she put forth great effort to attend congregation meetings in person rather than on Zoom.

Dorethea loved being a homemaker.  She was into knitting, crocheting, sewing, flower and vegetable gardening, canning, jam, and jelly making.  She didn't view these as work because she thoroughly enjoyed it.  But perhaps her greatest skill was cooking.  She worked as a school cafeteria worker for 41 years.  Over the years she would organize family reunions as well as have family, friends, and circuit overseers to her house for meals.  She was good at whatever she cooked but she was especially known for her desserts, cakes, pies, and fruitcakes. Dorethea will truly be missed by all who knew her.

She leaves to cherish her memory four sons, Howard Brown Jr. (Cynthia), Robert Brown, Perry Brown Sr., and Antonio Brown; two grandsons, Perry Brown Jr. (Kerry) and Robert Williams; six granddaughters, LaShawn Anderson, Dorethea Mims, Barbara Brown, Morgan Jennings, LaTarsha Brown, and Shaunderia Jackson; great-grandchildren, LaSierra Lee, Keon Brown, Satin Brown, Kaliqh Jones, ShaHeem Brown, Z'nyah Anderson, Na'ilah Mims, Terrance Mims Jr., Amanda Drew, Cion Green, Mandale Boyd, Brianna Brown and Tandon Bethea; great-great-grandchildren, Yahmah Brown, Yamiyah Brown and Arian Shaw; two brothers, James Hunt (Annie) and Milton Hunt (Dorothy); two sisters, Lucinda Hunt Powell and Marlene Vaughan (Derick).

The Family will have a  Memorial Serrvice at 2:00 pm on Saturday, January 13, 2024, at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses 575 Old Wagner Road, Petersburg, Virginia.  Service will be conducted by Chris Miller, Waverly, Virginia.
