Obituary

On February 1, 2024, Deacon Cobie (Peter) Drew Jr., entered eternal rest at the Bon Secours Southside Medical Center in Petersburg, Virginia. Cobie was born on November 18, 1945, to the late Cobie Drew Sr. and Hazel Mason Brown. He was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Drew; a brother James Brown Jr.; stepson Steven Baily; three sisters: Margie Lankford (Edward), Virgil Harris (James), and Mary Malone (Adrian); one son Santee Drew; and two nieces Yolanda Bates and Lolitha Phillips.

Cobie became an active and devoted member of the Lily of the Valley Deliverance Center, where he served as a Deacon. Cobie held jobs at Hopewell Hardwood, and he was a retiree of Prince George Electric Company. After retirement, he enjoyed spending his Saturdays working at Glen's Automotive. Cobie was also passionate about performing lawn care services until his health declined. He worked part-time at the Carpenter Museum and often for others in his spare time. Cobie enjoyed spending time with his family, fishing, and watching old westerns. He enjoyed watching NFL football, his favorite team was the Dallas Cowboys.

He leaves to cherish, five daughters; Bernice Williamson (Thomas) of Richmond, VA, Victoria Parham (Piolet) of Waverly, VA, Sonya Minga (Lewis) of Waverly, VA, Vonda Coleman of Norfolk, VA, and Neka Wilkins (Phillip II) of Spring Grove, VA; one son George Drew of Petersburg, Va; step-daughter Stephanie Smith (Terry) of Waverly, VA; three sisters; Barbara Phillips of Norfolk, VA, Linda Bates of Waverly, VA, and Hazel Flowers (Ruben) of Stony Creek, VA; sister-in-law Renetta Brown of Waverly, VA; devoted god son Arthur Lee Drew Jr. of Disputana, VA; devoted Pastor & Friend Bishop Marvin J. Drew Sr.; devoted friends Robert Lee Drew Jr., Burton Sykes, Michael Turner, Vernon Holmes, Samuel Harrison, Walter Eley Elmo Burgess, Dennis Hatch and Herman Williams; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and other devoted & special relatives, friends, and church family whom he loved dearly and cared for.

A Celebration of Life will be 1:00pm Saturday, February 10, 2024, at Lily of The Valley Deliverance Center 411 Oak Street Waverly, Virginia, Bishop Marvin Drew Sr. Pastor.  Interment will follow immediately at Waverly Cemetery, Spring Branch Road, Waverly, Virginia.

Public Viewing will be 10:00am - 6:00pm Friday, February 9, 2024, at Peace Funeral Home, 237 Railroad Avenue, Waverly, Virginia.
