Obituary

David McArthur Conner, 80, entered into eternal peace on Thursday, December 9, 2022, at his residence in NW Washington, DC. David was born in Surry County Virginia on May 31, 1942, to the late George and Susie Stringfield Conner.

David confessed Christ at an early age and joined Oak Grove Baptist Church where he served faithfully for many years until he relocated to Washington, DC.  David was a true man of God. David was a very loving, laid-back, yet hardworking man. He worked effortlessly in many capacities while working both for his employers and within his community. David retired from Linen of Weeks after 38 years of service in 2009.

David united in marriage with Joyce Ann Mcallister Conner in the '90s. However, no children came from this union. David & Joyce Ann continued family traditions and enjoyed having a blended family with the late Danita Marble, Brian Conner, and Corey Conner.

David was very family oriented and loved attending family gatherings during the holidays. Those who knew David best knew that he loved playing baseball, dancing, attending sporting events, and traveling. He was well known for spontaneous outings with family, friends, and the guys. David loved to sing and cut a step. In his downtime, you could catch David rooting on his favorite sports teams the Washington "REDSKINS" Commanders, Washington Nationals, and the Washington Wizards. David was a very straightforward individual, he always had a listening ear and gave great advice.  He was raised in a God-fearing home and possessed a unique and personal relationship with God.

David was preceded in death by his daughter Danita Marble,  four sisters Annie "Teeny" Conner Nichols,  Joan Conner Evans, Pearl Conner Judkins, and Geneva Conner Harris; two brothers McKinley Benjamin Conner and George Conner, Jr.

David leaves to cherish his memories his wife Joyce Ann Conner of Washington, DC; his sons Brian Conner (Stacy) of Stockbridge, GA; Corey of Washington, DC; four grandchildren: Shonda Marble and Eric Marble both of Waverly, VA, Zatoria Hall of Fort Hood, TX and Bakari Conner of GA; three great-grandchildren: Iyonna Marble, Lauryn Hancock, and Royce Hall; two brothers Roy Conner and Stanley Conner (Jerlene), both of Wakefield, VA, brother-in-law Percell Nichols of Petersburg, VA; Sister-in-law Carolyn Mcallister of Capitol Heights, MD; two bonus children Chiquita Brooks & Rodney Higgins of the home; a devoted nephew James 'Duke" Judkins (Elizabeth) of Wakefield; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends; two devoted friends, Ernest and Ethel Gregory of Washington, DC.

David was the patriarch of his family.  He held our hands, encouraged us to know God for ourselves, and taught us life lessons while telling us life challenges and experiences are your best teachers.

David , a husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle & friend is resting peacefully and will live in our hearts forever.
