Obituary

The Lord in His Infinite wisdom called our beloved Deaconess Cora E. Williams home, Friday, March 23, 2018 at 11:30 a.m. at Southside Regional Medical Center, Petersburg, VA.

Cora Elizabeth Williams, daughter of the late Rufus Williams Sr. and Amanda Turner Williams was born November 22, 1937 in Waverly, Virginia.  She was a life-long native of Sussex County in the Newville Community attending the Sussex County Training School.

On April 13, 1953, Cora Elizabeth Williams join in matrimony to James Edward Williams.  From this union was three adorable daughters Dorothy, Gwendolyn "Gwen" and Corliss.  Her second daughter Gwendolyn preceded her in death on April 12, 2017.  It was five months later September 19, 2017 her spouse for 64 years James Edward Williams, the love of her life joined their daughter.

Mrs. Cora was known for her unending generosity, dedicated love for others, and her sense of humor.  She will be greatly missed by the many lives she touched while preparing and serving nutritious meals at Annie B. Jackson Elementary School in Waverly, VA. She retired from Sussex County Public Schools June 10, 2007 with 42 plus years of service in food service.

Sister Cora loved her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and she love witnessing the goodness of the Lord, listening to gospel music, and sharing testimonies of how good God is.  She was a lifelong member of Wilborne Baptist Church and a watch care member at Plank Road Baptist Church. She joined at an early age, and served faithfully and held the following positions: member of deaconess, missionary, hospitality, choir, youth, women's ministry and Pastor's Aide Ministry.

Deaconess Williams was also active in the community which included: The Eastern Star Zorah Chapter #116, National Education Association, Virginia Education and Sussex County Retired Teachers Association.

Deaconess Cora was called home to join those whom she loved so dearly: her parents, Mr. & Mrs. Rufus Williams Sr., husband Deacon James E. Williams, daughter Gwendolyn W. Hall, sister Helen Davis, brothers, Theodore, Nathaniel, Wallace, and Arthur Williams, two nephews, Linwood Jones and Larry Davis, a niece, Mary Williams Johnson, a brother-in-law, Joseph Jones.

Left to cherish her memories: two daughters, Dorothy Williams, Corliss Davis (Pastor Alexander Davis) of Waverly, VA; grandchildren, her boys, Derek Williams(Alesia) of Waverly, VA, and Omar Williams (Tremoyne) of Dinwiddie, VA, SFC James E. Hall (Raquel), Roderick Davis, PFC Grant Williams, Destiny Williams, Alexis Giles, Cortrell Davis, Byanica Giles, Khavari Rawlings, Jecenia Carpenter, and Demonia Stith; great grandchildren, Jamie Hall and Julius Hall; one sister, Annie W. Jones of Petersburg, VA; one brother Melvin "Ray" Williams of Newark, NJ; two sisters-in-law, Fannie Williams and Delores Williams; two sons-in-law, Freddie Lee Hall of Surry, VA and Pastor Alexander Davis Jr of Waverly, VA.  A host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends and devoted friends Jane W. Lundy and George Urquhart.  Also, a special thanks to the dependable neighbors of the Jerusalem Plank Road (Hwy 35) and Newville Road (Hwy 625) Community.  We were truly blessed to have her as mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, co-worker and her love and spirit will continue to influence all our lives.

Viewing for Mrs. Williams will be Friday, March 30, 2018 from 10:00am – 5:00pm at Peace Funeral Home and the Family will receive friends from 5:00pm to 7:00pm.  Funeral Service for Mrs. Williams will be 12:00 Noon, Saturday, March 31, 2018 at Wilborne Baptist Church, 7138 Newville Road, Waverly, VA, Rev. Clarence Thweatt, Pastor, Officiating and Dr. George Urquhart, Eulogizing.  Interment will follow at the Plank Road Baptist Church Cemetery.
