Obituary

"Thus says the LORD who made it, the LORD who formed it to establish it (the LORD is HIS name): Call to Me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know". Jeremiah 33:2-3

Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, cousin, and friend, Charles Wesley Bailey, entered rest on Monday, September 12, 2022, at his residence.

Charles (MUCK), as he was affectionally called, was born on July 2, 1942.  He was born in Surry County, VA to the late Henry D. Claiborne and Dilsey Ricks.

Charles, was a graduate of L.P. Jackson High School, Dendron, VA, Class of 1963.

His faith walk began at Oak Grove Baptist Church, Wakefield, VA as a youth.  He transferred his membership to Christian Charities Deliverance Church, Wakefield, VA, and labored under the leadership of Elder David L Brooks Sr.  While at CCDC he served in many capacities, including Lead Guitar player, Trustee, Deacon and Usher Board Member, and Transportation Coordinator.  He was willing to serve to the Glory of God in whatever capacity he was asked.  Deacon Bailey was a faithful member of Higher Way Ministries Petersburg, VA under the leadership of Bishop Darren L Gay Sr.

Monk worked at Newport News Shipbuilding in Dept X18 Welding for 40 ½ years until he retired in 2004.  He then pursued another passion of his afterward at Tysinger/Dodge/Mercedes in Hampton, VA, as a Market Salesman.

He enjoyed spending time with Sally as they competed doing their nightly word searches and watching Family Feud.  He was an avid hunter and member of the Rangers Hunt Club for decades.  During his time with the club, he served in various positions.  He also had a passion for fast cars in his younger years.

He was preceded in death by his parents Henry Claiborne and Dilsey Ricks, stepdad, Willie Ricks and one brother Robert Bailey.

He leaves to cherish his memories his loving wife of 56 years Mary Helen Bailey, who he affectionately called "Sally";  daughter, Kimberly B Ellis (Rodney) and son, Charles T Bailey (Rhonda); Granddaughters Kierra Wilkins (Jonathan), Morgan Trenae and Taylor Yvette Bailey; Grandson Rodney Armani Ellis; Great Granddaugthers Kinsley and Ivey Wilkins (soon to be welcomed Addison); one uncle Robert Claiborne (Barbara) of Waverly, VA; one aunt Sarah Claiborne of Wakefield, VA; two brothers Melvin Bailey of Wakefield, Virginia and Terrance Ricks (Rachel)  Suffolk, Virginia; three sisters Ernestine Ricks and Barbara Ricks of Wakefield, VA and Aretha Francis of Williamsburg, VA; Sister-In-Law Beulah Jackson Beacon, NY; Devoted Cousins Henry Robinson, Mary Alice Bailey, Anne Robinson and Betty Norris all of Wakefield, VA and George Young of Poquoson, VA; Goddaughters Sharon Griffin (Roger) and Iris Wyche (Otis); Devoted Friends Otis Warren, Larry Brown, James King and George (Hound Dog) Cooper; and a host of devoted nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A Celebration of Life will be 12Noon, Saturday, September 17, 2022, at Oak Grove Baptist Church, Wakefield, Virginia, Rev. Leslie Holloway, Pastor, Bishop Darren Gay, eulogist.

Public Viewing will 10:00am - 5:00pm Friday, September 16, 2022, at Peace Funeral Home, Waverly, Virginia.
