Catherine Luciel
Bolden
October 14, 1958 – December 29, 2025
Catherine Luciel Crocker Bolden, lovingly known to family and friends as Cathy, Suzi, and "Bolden", was born on October 14, 1958, and peacefully entered eternal rest on December 29, 2025.
A graduate of Sussex Central High School, Class of 1977, she began her life's work in service to others by earning her Nursing Assistant License and working in a local nursing home. Guided by faith, compassion, and a servant's heart, she continued to pursue her calling in healthcare.
In 1984, she attended Richmond Technical Center, where she completed her training in Practical Nursing and became a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). She began her nursing career working at Richmond Memorial Hospital during the 1980s, where she gained valuable experience and continued to grow in her calling to serve others. She later dedicated more than 40 years of faithful service to Southside Regional Medical Center (now Bon Secours Southside Medical Center), where she cared for countless patients with kindness, patience, and unwavering devotion. Her work was not just a career—it was ministry in action.
She retired in June of 2025, leaving behind a powerful legacy of compassion, professionalism, and love. Her hands were instruments of healing, and her heart reflected the love of Christ in all she did.
She accepted Christ as her Savior at a young age and lived her life rooted in faith and service. Catherine was a faithful and devoted member of Rose of Sharon Apostolic Church, where she served wholeheartedly in many capacities. She was a dedicated leader within the church, serving as Directress of the Sunbeam Choir and the Adult Gospel Choir, founding the Rose of Sharon Mime Team, and shared her joy and love for the Lord through occasional teaching in Vacation Bible School, among many other ministries. Her commitment to the work of the Lord, her love for music and praise, and her heart for nurturing young people left a lasting impact on her church family.
Above all else, she loved the Lord and her family. She was a devoted mother, Na Na, and friend whose strength, wisdom, and gentle spirit will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew her. She will be remembered by all who were blessed to know her.
Catherine was preceded in death by her husband, Lewis Lorenzo Bolden; parents, Wesley Valentine and Addie Rebecca (Johnson) Crocker; brother, William Eugene Johnson; and uncles, Chester and Leroy Johnson.
She is survived by daughters, LaDonna, Jessica, and Jaleesa Bolden; grandchildren, Brandon Lamont, Jonathan Lorenzo, Asia (Mai) Lanay, Xavier Durrell, Elias Daimon-Bradleah, Benjamin Levi, Zachary Alexander and Jacob Wesley; sister, Shelia Turner (Wilbert); aunt, Doretha Giles; and cousins, Phyllis (Leroy) Jones and Wyatt Hamlin along with a host of other family, friends, coworkers, and loved ones who will forever cherish her memory.
Her legacy will live on through the lives she healed, the family she loved, and the many hearts she touched.
Though we mourn, we do not grieve without hope, for "to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord" (2 Corinthians 5:8). Her work on earth is done, and she now rests in the arms of her Savior.
In accordance with the wishes of Catherine Luciel Crocker Bolden, cremation was her chosen arrangement, and there will be no interment or burial. The casket will remain closed, as she wished to be remembered as she was.
