CARROLL LEONARD MOORE, affectionately known as Bobba/Bob, was born in Sussex County on November 22, 1945, to the late Oliver "Venable" Moore and Effie Mae Harrison Moore.
Bob was a lifelong resident of Sussex County, educated in the public school system, and during his youth confessed Christ as his personal Saviour and was baptized at the New Hope Baptist Church.
As a young adult, Bob began working at the Newport News Shipbuilding and Dry Dock Company and remained employed there until retiring in November 2007. He proudly told anyone that asked that he retired from the shipyard after 43 years and 9 months of service at age 62. Bob loved his coworkers at the shipyard accumulating friendships that lasted beyond his time of employment. He also loved his neighbors and friends in the Pocahontas community of Wakefield where he has resided since a teenager. More than anything else, he loved his family and spent quality time with family, extended family, and friends. He was a devoted son, brother, Father, Grandfather, Uncle, Cousin, and more.
Bob entered into eternal peace on Saturday, July 8, 2023, at Bon Secours - Southside Regional Medical Center. He was preceded in death by his parents, his son Carol Johnson, and brothers James Oliver, Jimmy Hoover, and Charlie Nehemiah.
He leaves to cherish his memories, his lifelong soulmate Patricia Hill his devoted children Virginia Johnson, Vanessa Hill, Carolyn Hill, Katina (Rodney) Pegram, Patricia (Lawrence) Gray, Carroll (Mercedes) Artis; devoted grandchildren to include Chartavia "Bosslady" whom he raised, Erica Short, Kayla Armand, Ronell Johnson, Santana Gills, TyShonda Hill, TyRon Hill, Leon Jones Jr., Ashley Pegram, Jaquisha Pegram, TreQuan Pegram, Danielle Gray, Vivika Gray, Elijah Artis, Roman Artis, Saint Artis, and Prince Artis; eleven great-grandchildren, his devoted siblings; Edna (Harold, deceased) Lowery, Mary Pebbles, Katie Gray, Erma (Willie) Mabry, Joanne (George) Parham, William (Mary Inez, deceased) Moore, Gladys Robinsons (Burrell, deceased), Maria Thompkins (Poetry, deceased), and many devoted nieces, nephews, cousins, and devoted extended families; the Hills', the Roses', the Wiggins' families of Wakefield.
The family would like to thank Bon Secours Southside Regional Medical Center, Sussex/Waverly Rescue, Fire Department, Sheriff Department, neighbors one devoted Jesse Cooke, and friends for providing invaluable care during his illness.
Public Viewing will be 10:00am - 6:00pm Friday, July 14, 2023, at Peace Funeral Home 237 Railroad Avenue, Waverly, Virginia.
A Celebration of Life will be 11:00am Saturday, July 15, 2023, at Empowerment Temple Ministries, Waverly, Virginia, Elder Terrence Green Sr, Pastor & Officiant, Rev. John W. Pretlow, Eulogist. Interment will follow immediately at Booker T. Memorial Park, Terrapin Swamp Road, Wakefield, Virginia.
