Bessie Brown Thornton, 90, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on February 25, 2017, following a brief illness. She was the daughter of the late Rev. Treasy Van (TV) and Eliza Brown.
Bessie worked at the Columbia Peanut Company and the Crater Senior Center. For years, she was owner and operator of the Green Lantern Grill in Wakefield, Virginia. She was a devoted member of First Baptist Church, Wakefield, Virginia, serving the Lord as President of the Senior Choir.
Bessie was a giver of the Lord's light and love. She was a very devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She loved spending time with her family, singing hymns and talking about the Lord.
She is survived by her husband, Luster V. Thornton; her sons, Luster Jr, Charles (Monica) and Wallace; her brother, Webster Brown (Gwendolyn); her sister, Barbara Richwood; her sister-in-law, Barbara Brown; one godson, Richard Caple(Vickie )her grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
The Homegoing celebration will be 1:00pm, Saturday, March 4, 2017 at First Baptist Church, 217 County Drive Wakefield, Virginia. Interment will follow at Thornton Family Cemetery.
