Obituary

On Thursday, November 9, 2023, Alma T. Turner peacefully departed life at her residence in Wakefield, Virginia after a brief battle with illness surrounded by her family.  Alma was born September 19, 1941, in Southampton County, Virginia to the late William and Betty Warren Ricks. She was the youngest of six children.  She is preceded in death by her siblings: Romaine F. Ricks Gray, Richard Ricks, Betty Louise Warren, William Ricks, and Mattie L. Ricks.

Alma grew up in Sedley, Virginia, and attended Southampton County Public Schools.  She later moved to Wakefield, Virginia.  At an early age, she gave her life to Christ and joined St. Luke United Church of Christ, later moving her membership to Union Hill United Church of Christ where she sang in the choir and was an usher.

Alma worked several occupations, but what she loved most was being an organist.  She was an organist for several churches to include Mount Moriah, Plank Grove, Easter Baptist, and Union Hill.  She was an usher and sang in the choir at Union Hill United Church of Christ.

Alma was a devoted Christian and loyally attended church.  She was a loving and dedicated mother and grandmother, which included raising her grandchildren Troyeld and Demetria Silver.  She was a sweet person who always wore a smile and was ready to crack a joke.  Let us not forget, that she loved watching her soap operas.

She leaves to cherish her memories, two sons, James, Jr. and Michael Turner of Wakefield, Virginia; four grandchildren, Erica Turner of Boykins, Virginia, Troyeld Silver of Waverly, Virginia, Eric Turner of Courtland, Virginia, and Demetria Silver of Waverly, Virginia; five great-grandchildren, Amani Bailey, JyQuiez Turner, Denasia Silver, Kemaj Turner, and Semara Turner; a devoted niece that was like a daughter, Shilton R.
