Obituary

I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith  2 Timothy 4:7

On Wednesday, October 6 th , 2021 God and his divine wisdom called his solider Addison Jonah Claiborne Jr. to eternal rest.  Some called him Jonah some called him "Pete" and his siblings called him "Junior". Jonah was ill for many years but he never complained. For a man that was very active since a child, he took his illness courageously with the grace of God.

Jonah was born on April 3 rd , 1947 to the late Jonah and Pearrine Claiborne. He was the third oldest of nine children.

Jonah graduated from Luther Porter Jackson High School in 1966, he was a school bus driver and played baseball. After graduating, he worked briefly at Newport News Ship Yard. He worked for more than 20 years at Brown and Williamson Tobacco Company. After Brown and Williamson relocated to Georgia, he was blessed to work for Smithfield Foods as a mechanic until he retired.

Until his illness, Jonah was an avid bowler, hunter, and fisherman. He was called the "Junkman" he would get up early mornings to collect metal, old cars, and tires. He also operated his own grocery store named "Pete's Place" as well as the owner and manager of the Invaders Softball team. He and his family joined Oak Grove Baptist Church where he loved to hear the choir sing his favorite hymn "At the Cross".

Jonah was preceded in death by his parents Jonah and Perrine Claiborne; two brothers Andrew and Arthur Claiborne; one sister Marian Claiborne.

Jonah leaves to cherish his memory: his loving and devoted wife Edith of 52 years; two sons Angelo (Marilyn) and Gregory (Kimberly) Claiborne; one daughter Michelle Claiborne. ) Six grandchildren Shamese Taylor, Tyzar Harrison, Drequan, Makya, Alaysia, and Treshaun Claiborne.
